The latest version of NREL’s System Advisor Model (SAM) includes the embedded “Novatec Solar Boiler” sample file, allowing SAM’s users to model commercially available Fresnel solar boilers.
SAM is a freeware simulation program, which contains models of different power generation technologies. By applying SAM, the users can run their own annual energy yield and Levelised Electricity Cost estimates.
Novatec Solar has supported the integration of the "Novatec Solar Boiler" sample file, based on Novatec's performance guarantee values, to improve the understanding of Fresnel solar boiler performances.
NREL is a national laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, operated by the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, LLC. SAM can be downloaded for free at sam.nrel.gov.
How to use SAM?
Download the freeware SAM to your computer
In order to model Novatec Solar’s Fresnel solar boiler, a pre-configured file has been embedded into SAM. The input is based on Novatec’s solar boiler performance guarantee values.
Five steps to access this file:
1. Open SAM
2. On the SAM welcome page, click on the “Open a sample SAM file…”
3. Select the “Novatec Solar Boiler (Linear Fresnel) item
4. Read and validate the disclaimer and click “OK” if you want to continue.
5. The Novatec Solar Boiler model is now ready for use. In order to ensure getting relevant results, please read the note in the pop-up window with a yellow background.
