PE 2 – The world’s largest Fresnel CSP power station in operation

Thermal EOR is suitable to heavy viscous crude oils and involves the injection of thermal energy into the reservoir to increase the temperature and reduce the oil’s viscosity. A wide spread technique of thermal EOR is the injection of pressurized steam (steam flood). Steam flood EOR is considered to be the most commercial EOR technique and typically the steam is generated by burning fossil fuels (oil, diesel and natural gas).

In areas of high solar irradiation, such as the Middle East, Novatec Solar’s technology can be integrated into fossil fuel EOR plants to improve the overall plant economics by reducing the amount of fuel required by around 25% annually to produce steam.
